Violin or Viola- Beginner, Ages 9-12

This program is currently unavailable. Click here to view all of our current programs.

Violin
Is there a child in your life that has expressed an interest in learning violin or viola?

Children may learn either in this program. We will start at the very beginning with learning how to hold the instrument properly, to learning how to bow and read music. The pace with which we learn new material will parallel the speed at which your child absorb the content and concepts that are presented each week.

Practicing.  Children must practice at home at least 15-20 minutes, 3-5 days a week.  On the first day we will go over the proper way to practice in order to effectively learn and retain material we cover each week.

The book we use is included in the registration fee.  Once registered, the instructor needs an email letting her know which instrument your child plans to learn so the appropriate book will be available for him/her on the first day.

Children must have an instrument for the first day.  Vermont Violins at the Church St. Market Place is offering discounted rentals for children of this program only. Violin rentals are $25 and viola rentals are $30. Please mention that you will be taking my youth beginner's class when reserving your instrument to get your discount. Please call their shop with any questions regarding the rental contract.

If your child is currently taking viola or violin in school, please contact Sharon Waxman at
learnviolavt@gmail.com prior to registering to see if this program would be an appropriate supplement for them.

Originally from New Jersey, Sharon Waxman began playing piano at age 5. At the age of 11 she added viola lessons and was recognized by her teacher as a natural at the instrument. After 6 months of study, Sharon was accepted in the South Jersey Regional Orchestra.  At the age of 13, the Interlochen Arts Festival in Interlochen, Michigan welcomed Sharon as a performer, and later that same year, she earned a place in the prestigious Juilliard School’s Pre-College program in New York City.

After high school, Sharon studied music at Louisiana State University.
