Financial Assistance Program

PURPOSE OF FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE PROGRAM?
The Recreation & Parks Department recognizes that there are Williston residents who are financially unable to participate in programs offered by Williston Recreation & Parks, but still desire the opportunity to experience the benefits of leisure activities.  The Recreation & Parks Department has established a Financial Assistance Program as a supplement of funds to make recreation programs available to Williston residents.  These funds are made available through scholarships.

WHO IS ELIGIBLE?
Williston residents who are experiencing financial difficulty or who are in a unique, hardship situation are eligible to apply for assistance.  We understand that from time to time families may encounter some unforeseen and unfortunate circumstances.  During these times this program may provide some financial assistance to help a family meet some recreational needs.  If you feel you are in need of assistance, but do not meet the income guidelines, you may attach a letter to your scholarship application stating your circumstances.  These are special circumstances and will be handled on a case by case basis.

WHICH PROGRAMS ARE ELIGIBLE FOR SCHOLARSHIPS?
Williston Recreation and Parks sponsored programs are eligible.  Assistance cannot be used toward facility rentals or “co-sponsored” programs/summer camps, unless the co-sponsored agent offers a scholarship.  Co-sponsored programs are ones that are offered by a business or individuals who do not work directly for the Recreation & Parks Department

HOW DOES THE ASSISTANCE PROGRAM WORK?
Assistance will be awarded on a first come, first serve basis while funding is available.  Approved families will be awarded in 30%, 50% or 70% increments off the program registration fee.  This is dependent of your income level and family size.  The remaining balance shall be paid by the applicant.  A payment plan can be set up to pay off a large family due balance.  Families must complete a Financial Assistance Application, one per family per the calendar year, January 1st- December 31st.  Complete and up to date income verification must be provided, see below.

WHAT IS THE INCOME DOCUMENTATION THAT IS NEEDED?
The income verification documentation that is needed is as follows:

  • Salary/Wages-Attach a copy of the first page of your federal and state income tax return for the most current filing year.
  • Residency Documentation-A utility or tax bill tied directly to the residence with the the applicants name on it.  All items must have correct name, current date and correct address.
  • Free Lunch Program Documentation- If you are enrolled in the program. Attach a copy of the Eligibility Information sheet for the free or reduced lunch program with the Williston School District.

New information will be required each January regardless of which season original information was provided.  Once the necessary paperwork is received for eligibility, it will stay on file until the end of the calendar year.
